Sad news: the great opera director Patrice Chéreau has died in Paris of lung cancer. Known for his Ring cycle, he also directed many other things since, including - just last July - a terrific new Elektra for Aix-en-Provence (that will arrive at the Met in a future season). No extensive obituaries yet, but Alex Ross weighs in:

Goodness, I'd just been thinking about his narrative films, again, this past week; I even mentioned his THOSE WHO LOVE ME CAN TAKE THE TRAIN in the film thread a few days ago or so.
His work for stage is something I have to look forward to.
Thanks for passing on the sad news and the links.

Maybe someone here can help me. I'd like to get hold of the paper Chéreau wrote with Boulez on The Ring called Commentaires sur "Mythologie et  Idéologie" I can read English and French. If anyone has a copy,  could they upload it for me?  Or just as good, if anyone knows an easy and affordable way for me to find it.
