I need some (a lot) of help.

Has anyone done this before?

Suggestions please?

I am selling a collectible handbag and need all the help I can get.

How much money does those ebay stores take, should I decide to go that route?

It is hard to understand what you are asking, but setting up an e-bay store to sell one item is not appropriate, e-bay stores are for sellers who sell large volumes of items.  You want to start an e-bay auction.  You will be charged a small listing fee and a commission on the sale price, if it sells.  You will be at a big disadvantage since if you are newly registered you will have no feedback record and a null seller rating and buyers will view you with suspicion.

Yes, head-case is right. You're a total newbie with a much-wanted item for sale - some will think twice before bidding on your bag. Better to find someone you know who has an eBay account and great (positive) feedback, and let them sell the item for you. :)

Right. Thanks.  :)

One question: if I set up an auction and the highest bid is $10, do I HAVE to sell it at that price?

If you need two threads to sell a canvas handbag, how many threads would you require to sell a house or a car?

You can set a reserve price, or you can start the bidding at what you would consider the minimum acceptable sale price.  Otherwise, a valid bid is essentially a binding contract.  You could consider reading the instructions on ebay's web site.

Thanks head-case.

I have sold many things on Ebay: CDs, DVDS, textbooks, baby formulat (yeah that's right) and have over 220 positive feedbacks. It REALLY helps if you have a few positive feedbacks first. If you are selling $3 CDs nobody cares but if you are selling something valuable (anything over $50 I would say) people tend to hesitate if you don't have a record. YOu know why? Because there is nothing that prevent the seller from taking your money and not send you anything ! Sure you can file a claim with Ebay but there is no guarantee of getting your money back (all of it that is anyway).

As Mr. Headcase said, you can set up a reserve price or you can start the bidding at the lowest price you are willing to part with the item. Beware that Ebay charges you MORE if the starting bid is higher. I forget exactly what the scale is but you can easily find that on the Ebay website.
