 ;D

But you took out an Eastern European for another?  By the time 10 more posters come over, your list will look like a doodling pad.  :D

Durufle Requiem
Stravinsky Symphony of Psalms
Poulenc Gloria
Poulenc Mass in G
Faure Requiem
Mozart Requiem
Bach B Minor Mass
Bach St. Matthew Passion
Brahms German Requiem

Can't think of 11; the Durufle is far and away my favorite.

Very nice list, SA. I would definitely include Poulenc in mine, especially the Mass, although I'd go for the Stabat Mater before Gloria, but not because I don't enjoy Gloria.

Durufle Requiem
Faure Requiem

I'm planning on listening to these and some Poulenc works tomorrow. What instrumentations/versions are your favorites here?

So far Poulenc's "Gloria" is the only work I want to add to my way-too-short list. Maaaybe Verdi's Requiem.

Poulenc's "Gloria"

Aaaaargh! Another glaring omission from my list! I guess the Suter will have to go!

On the topic of sacred works, I wonder what Atterberg's Requiem is like and why it hasn't yet been recorded.....

This reminds me that I also need to listen to Franz von Suppe's Requiem. Between that, Durufle, Faure, and Poulenc, tomorrow's playlist is set!

Just remembered Lili Boulanger's beautiful Psalm 24. Geez, this is agonizing! ;D

I like the chamber and full orchestra versions of the Faure and Durufle Requiems equally. Both offer entirely valid perspectives on the music. Some days I'll prefer the chamber version and others I'll prefer the full. :)
