It was initially a toss-up for me between W. Schuman and Ives, but I chose Schuman for the sheer emotional thrill I get from so many of his symphonies.

Good choice! As a whole, I admire rather than love Ives' music, but the Fugue from his Symphony no. 4 is really quite special. I just wish it would go on and on. :) I also think highly of the mysterious beauty of the first movement of Three Places in New England and the high-spirited abandon of the finale of Symphony no. 2.

There is also some subtle, and quite haunting, beauty in the Holidays Symphony. Particularly in Washington's Birthday and Decoration Day. Of course, I love the raucous moments in his symphonies as well.
