Apparently this is a thing now. Perhaps it's been for a while.

Music Sales (i.e. G. Schirmer/AMP/Chester Novello/Wilhelm Hansen/lots of smaller houses)
Edition Peters
Schott Music - mostly samples
Universal Edition - mostly samples and, for some reason, the complete Rihm string quartets, I guess he has so many now they're scrambling to give them away :P
Theodore Presser
Edition S

and possibly more I haven't located yet.

I'm a little surprised, considering that issuu is hardly the most secure of sites and a good number of the scores seem like they would require a 30" monitor to be able to read without squinting. (Trying to navigate a zoomed-in page can be incredibly irritating.) It's also quite annoying that the Stacks and Publications aren't arranged in alphabetical order, or by composer, so when the number of scores reaches into the hundreds it's quite a pain to find anything. But I suppose this is The Futureā„¢.

Personally, I would much prefer a bookstore, but I'm an old-fashioned kind of person in that regard, I think.

Well, thanks for that heads-up - that's really quite a find.  It's quite hit or miss, as you say - for example, there seems to be a completely different set of Universal Edition publications at http://issuu.com/uesales.  I intend to do much more exploring, and will perhaps post any interesting finds here.

Indeed. The site could benefit from many more customisation features at least, I think.

Here's another one - Peer Music. If you're going "Who?", well, I didn't know either, actually. But among their composers number Mieczysław Weinberg, David Diamond, Xavier Montsalvatge, and Derek Bermel along with other people I've never heard of. I seem to recall them publishing quite a lot of Ives as well, though now much of that has lapsed into the public domain.

And here's the Society of Finnish Composers. I've actually never heard of any of those people... apart from Jukka Tiensuu I suppose. The interesting thing about these scores is that they seem to have audio embedded, so you can follow along (internet connection speeds permitting) with the scores. Clever.
