Writing "shit" as "sh!t" is pretty eccentric in my book...  0:)

The point really is to fool the censorship software.

I've been told I am.  Not "eccentric", but hahaha special.  Well not that special, but kinda different, but in a good way.  I feel personally that a lot of people, especially in the professional world have absolutely no personality.  Everybody is artificially polite, everybody has a fake smile.  Everybody asks you "how are you?" and you're supposed to respond "Great!!!", even if your cat died yesterday, it's still "Great!!!  ;D"

I'm not anti-American, but that blank teethy smile stare that I get A LOT really sickens me.  That's why I like people from other countries, and other states more than what I see here, in New York.  I'd prefer people to tell me "Man, the 2nd movement of the symphony that you guys played, really needed some more work!", instead of "You guys sounded great!   ;D".  Grr.

So that's how "eccentric" I am.  I try to be polite, but to the point.  I try not to be fake.  If I feel like shit, I won't have a giant smile on my face.

D.

Old habits die hard...

"Pretentious" is what I was thinking of earlier, or maybe it was...  ::)

I'll only suggest having tea, then, when I'm sure you're in excellent humor.

Yes I do, but it's 99º here and I am NOT going out in that.
lol, i'm stuck at home all day, so normally i spend about 15 minutes riding bikes with my little brother outside. By 9 in the morning, it's at least 90 degrees out and by the afternoon it's 100. Today I walked around the neighborhood for 30 or 40 minutes because there was nothing else to do. The only people outside are people from lawn services. After a couple of minutes, I'm sweating so bad that I can barely open my eyes because there's sweat in them

here's what the weather is now:
93°F
Feels Like
102°F
Partly Cloudy

But when it isn't cloudy, it feels like 110.......

Many people think that I am. I don't. Eccentric? Just because I insist on being myself? Just because I refuse to be anyone's victim? Nah!

(OK, the answer is maybe)

Well its not a negative thing lol, you are or you aren't.

A person can't determine for him/herself whether or not he/she is eccentric. This is a label that must be bestowed by observers. I think that if one is conscious of one's oddities, then it isn't eccentricity anymore, it's ... damn, what's that bloody word? ... you know, posing as someone or something. Acting. Sh!t, I hate when this happens. Getting old, my friends  :(

Well maybe I should change the question to have you been called eccentric. Im drinking water out of a 2 liter apple juice bottle. Does that count?

Probably be more accurate, but I was just eccentrically picking nits anyway. :)

If it counts for you, it counts for me, only mine is orange juice...

Then you just need to get outside a bit more often. I do not consider myself an eccentric, but apparently a former co-worker did when she called me "different." Our conversation ran roughly like this:

A friend once found me at McDonald's; I was drinking coffee and reading something by Lord Byron. She said to me "look around, see what normal people do, they eat hamburguers and and have regular chats, nobody comes here to drink coffee and read Byron... you are strange". Since then she doesn't call me by my name, but labels me "Snob".

50%! Thats soo high? What percentage of the population would you call eccentric? I would say less than 1/50 and yet we have 50% here. Interesting. Does this have to do with music, or just the forum?

50% of respondents. The non-eccentrics aren't attracted to the title of this threads like eccentrics are, I guess.

Stereotypes aside, don't you think there are at least a slightly higher percentage of eccentrics among classical music lovers than people who are into "popular" music?

you know, i didn't vote because it's hard to define "eccentric"....
unless you mean just plain crazy, then it'd be no for me, but if you mean very different from most people in terms of interests, for example, then it'd be a yes

I feel, very generally speaking, the Americans are a little too polite and bland whereas the British a little too bitchy and cliquey. I'm English for better or worse (worse I rather think) and find the American inclusiveness, no matter what superficialities it may bring, to be absolutely a great value to establish on the normative level.

Sean

Regarding personal eccentricity though, my opinions and outlook on the world is now so strongly marked and individual, even boarding on the warped and manic, that most of the people I've met for many years now are afraid of me. My very existence is a threat to their identity...

CW: There's something about you - you're just different.
ME: No, I'm the same.
CW: That's what I mean. You're different.

That reads like a short modernist play.

Eccentric doesn't mean your crazy, it just means you do/think things that are normal to you but other people think are weird. Its not even like specific examples, its in many of the things you do. For example, I hate to be bare foot, but I hate to wear shoes. Socks for me. I used 2 types of soaps when I shower. I have a habit of making inappropriate faces in conversation. I dunno lemme think what else people find weird about me. I'm obsessed with good digestion, I eat things so they will digest well. I don't know what else but people tend to find lots of weird things about me. Even the way I move, I find it difficult to walk straight sometimes mainly because I don't care which way I'm going as long as I get to wear im heading.

Also I tend to judge how well people get along by how synchronized their walking and movements are. Anyone else do that?

Heather Harrison

I've had a number of people claim that I am eccentric, so perhaps that helps confirm it.

Yes, eccentricity can include unusual habits or ways of doing things.  I have a few of these.  I talk funny (it is a bit difficult to describe in words).  I sometimes walk into walls or other obstructions.  My style of dress is a bit unusual - often a throwback to the past.  First, I almost always wear skirts or dresses, while most women these days wear pants most of the time.  I won't wear jeans because I find them uncomfortable.  I have numerous hats, and I wear them fairly often.  Included in my hat collection are a few bonnets, which I sometimes wear.  They are way out of style, but they are great for keeping the wind from blowing my hair all over the place, and they protect me from the sun.  Sometimes, I look like I came from some other century.  This sometimes elicits weird looks, but I also get compliments on occasion.  I don't like to engage in small talk with people, but I will happily drag them into discussions of philosophy or other academic subjects that they probably have little interest in.  (Or, I might talk about my weird collections and hobbies; this sometimes scares people.)  I have never been in a sustained relationship, and I don't want to be in one - I like being alone.  In some facets of life, I refuse to have anything to do with modern technology.  In particular, most of the telephones around my home have rotary dials, and I refuse to get a cell phone.  I refuse to watch commercial television.  (In this day and age, not watching commercial TV is seen as weird.)  And finally, when I actually want to be around other people, I look for other eccentrics.
