How this orchestra can even afford to perform is beyond me. I guess a bankrupted city can still have an orchestra. ???

Mm, nice program.

Between the city being on the long skids, and the collapse of the Minnesota Orchestra, the pressure is on the Detroit Symphony.

This particular concert is bankrolled by Ford. You'll notice that many American cities with great orchestras - Chicago, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia - are also industrial hubs which rolled in wealth a hundred years ago.

Halfway through the Liszt concerto now. Enjoying it!

But we're not talking about hundred years ago, we're talking about right now and that figures that it's funded by Ford. That's the least they could do for that city, but a mixture of poor political decisions, incompetence, and sneaky, underhanded negotiations have plagued this once fine city. Now, it's just one huge ghetto. But this is what the politicians wanted I suppose.
