Classical music in car... YES!!!

I just tend to use music for background ambiance while driving; so no classical music :)

Doesn't sound strange to me, I do to. But I have to admit that I can hear an orchestra better. May have to do with being a small sports car, which aren't known for road noise insulation properties. But that SONY player actually plays loud enough to drown out most things. :)

When/if I buy a new stereo for one of our cars, I'll have to look for ones with USB hookups.  Car stereos surprise me because they have continued to focus on the multiple cd changer for so long.  What would seem like an obvious setup to me doesn't exist (or I just can't find it).  Why not have a drive that can read cd audio as well as CD ROM and DVD ROM (preferably dual layer capable)?  Then we could put 8 GB of music on a $2 DL DVD ROM disc, or 4 GB of music per $0.25 standard DVD ROM disc.

Sony has even better deals. They are manufacturing car stereos that play the music stored in your Sony Ericsson phone, via Bluetooth.

I have to say I don't see this as a better solution at all.  It has too many moving parts, as well as vendor lock in.   Why have to set up a wireless network from my car to my phone just to listen to music?  Once hooked up, how do I change songs?  On the phone?  I'd really rather use the stereo knobs and buttons since they are designed to be used without looking.  Also, cars (and car stereos) last a lot longer than phones.  I don't want to have to buy Sony phones for the next 10-15 years to be able to listen to my music in the car.

I find that some cds sound great in the car, while others are better left for the home.  Yesterday I was listening to a new Mozart Piano Concertos Somm CD.  It didn't work out well at all - vibrations from my dash board and muffled sound overall.

I don't know what car stereo to get.  :o So many...

I thought it was the back speakers, but they were messed up because a channel in the (15 year old) stereo had gone bad.

So nice new speakers, and now new stereo.

Any recommendations? That don't totally break the bank?  ;D

I got to know some of my favorite works while driving, don giovanni, the marriage of figaro, mozart symphonies, piano concerti, the clarinet concerto and quintet. I got into a car accident to beethovens 9th! (at 1 mph) the car is  my favorite place to listen to music, and I don't have any problems hearing in it.

I have a Bose stereo system in the car, and a cd player that holds 8 cd's, change them every week. :)

I never listen to music in the car.
I get so immersed in the music that it's much too dangerous - I'd hit a tree in less than five minutes! :o

Trust me, you can completely immerse yourself in the music and still drive perfectly. Unless you start conducting like Karajan that is...

I hit a car going like 2 miles an hour once...it was parked in the middle of the road and I couldn't switch lanes because there was a car right next to me blocking me. So I hit the brakes extremely hard and barely tapped the car. Of course I was in a tank so my whole hood got bent in, and the other car got a small scratch, but is it Beethoven's fault that I didn't start to break extremely hard an instant earlier? I don't think so, in fact I don't think it was my fault. At 6 pm during rush hour going 30 mph in the dark a black car was parked in the middle of the road without its flashing lights on...

I had an old car without a stereo, but got one when I bought a new car.
I was so distracted by the music that I had a, luckely minor, car accident on the first day... :-\

It's like listening to music during studying: many students swear that it helps, but all scientific tests show that it lessens the speed in problem-solving and it diminishes the ability to memorise. ;D

I listen to music while I take my tests :o I switch my focus from one to the other, it works quite nicely really. 3x^5 darara +9x pammmm pammmm =-3 bammmrraaaam!!!!!!  ;D
