Felix

Hello everybody. I hope I'm in the right place. I didn't see a link on the Introductions page for adding my bit.  My name is Felix and I was born far away in Namibia beyond the reach of classical music which was derided. But as soon as I found a bottom drawer of 78rpm records I took to this music instantly and wascontinually winding up the old gramophone. Then when I was 14 I went to  a boarding school which had a good music department and the music was a revelation to me, I had found my spiritual home and I feel in love at first sight with Schumann - and with all the others, but with Schumann I felt a personal affinity.

To give you my whole musical biography would take too long, but I graduated in music at Grahamstown  and also acquired a B.Mus.. University.

I don't know how and why, but I also developed an inclination for what is loosely called modern music. I considered the  Schönbergers as the truest inheritors of the classical- romantic tradition. I enjoy Ferneyhough.

I was advised by a friend to join you. She used to call herself Phrygian

Best wishes,
Felix

Hi Felix, and welcome - and you posted your introduction in exactly the right place.

Schumann, Schoenberg and Ferneyhough - now there's a list! You will find many admirers of all three here. Have fun, and let us know what you're listening to.

Hello and welcome from a fellow Schumann-ian!

"Felix" is Latin for "happy" and "lucky," and we are both happy and lucky to have you here!   0:)

Amazing how Life works: discovering the 78's (at Grandma's house?) leads to a degree in Music!

And it is always fascinating how the music of a German (or any composer) from the first half of the 1800's (or any other time) can still resonate with individuals throughout the world today.

[Thank for all the welcomes. I hope I don't disappoint you..
There are various GM G's and apparently I'm not on the one she recommended, but it looks good to me. I did a test reading what one person wrote but why the prefer the Classical period and the level of discussion was far higher than the forum I have come from, so I'm quite happy to remain here. I'd certainly like to add something on that subject. - Though I'm still a bit lost. I hope the reply option will now be evident.

Yours,
Felix
