Oh sorry, forgot about that one, especially since I have the Rach 3 with Garrick Ohlsson and quite enjoyed it! And very glad to know that the RVW menu will be available, too.

Yes, but their label hasn't done anything remotely interesting IMHO since their launch. They also haven't put out hardly any recordings either, but I have heard that the ASO not doing so well financially and this is coming from an incredibly reliable source within the establishment.

Well, the label has released four recordings so far; that's not so bad.  As for interesting repertoire, don't worry.  There could be some Elgar and/or Delius in the future.

Not many US orchestras are doing well, even the Met is suffering. A problem with the ASO is that they have to deal with two Boards, their own and the Woodruff Center. They are supposed to have contract negotiations soon, we'll see how they turn out. In the meantime they are my local orchestra and just like I did with the Richmond Symphony in VA, and the Dallas Symphony I will support them.

My inside source tells me there will be some changes made to the orchestra soon. And, I agree, I will support them, but I'm not always able to go their concerts. Two obvious disadvantages I have is I live 45 minutes away and I work a lot, so this definitely hinders my chances to see them. I'm hoping to be able to see the Shostakovich 10th concert in May with Volkov conducting.

Is Schwarz  really any more abusive than, for example, Toscanini or Celibidache? Or have orchestras gotten less tolerant over the years?

A page and a half through that article, I was having similar thoughts (well, I didn't know about Celibidache, but there are plenty of others who had that reputation).

But abusive or not, some of his decisions described later in the article were bad ideas that were basically guaranteed to breed discontent.
