QuoteIn 2012 Ian Anderson released Thick As A Brick 2, the follow-up to Jethro Tull's legendary concept album. The album was a critical and commercial success, charting around the world. In April he returns with Homo Erraticus, his new studio album.

The original Thick As A Brick album, released in 1972, was based around the poem of disgraced child prodigy Gerald Bostock. For Homo Erraticus Anderson is reunited with Bostock, using lyrics written by Gerald based on an old historical manuscript. The manuscript examines key events from throughout British history before going on to offer a number of prophecies for the future.

Suitably dramatised and exaggerated by Bostock as metaphors for modern life, he presented Anderson with ideas for 14 songs, which have now been set to music. The result is Homo Erraticus.

Heavens;  it looks as if this Amazon editor dosn't realize that . . . there is no Gerald . . . he was a fiction . . . .

Cluelessness strikes Amazon...again.

This thread has fallen into the lower regions of GMG. Is this illustrative of the cquality of contemporary prog? I think so. But there is hope "Shrine of New Generation Slaves" from Riverside (A Polish band) is really a beautiful album! Prog fans: not to be missed!

So . . . does anyone actually like Love Beach?

(I've not heard the album, so I do not have an opinion . . . .)

$47 for this Japanese issue.

After decades of mild curiosity, I finally heard it a few months ago via Beats streaming.  It was even more bizarre an experience than one would imagine from the album title and cover. Side 2 is actually pretty decent, a somewhat restrained sidelong epic called "Memoirs of an Officer and a Gentleman" that was more to my liking than, say, "Pirates" from Works Vol. 1.  But the poppier, song-based side 1 was so unbelievably ghastly it practically made the cover art look like a masterpiece of good taste in comparison.  The most horrifying track is called "Taste of my Love"--try to imagine the worst possible set of lyrics to go with that title, and I doubt that you could come up with anything nearly as cringe-worthy as what is actually sung here. I don't remember much about the other songs, but I recall being surprised at just how cheesy Keith's synth choices tended to be. In general, that first album side is the kind of thing that is so embarrassingly bad, it's almost fun in a completely perverse way.

I'm glad to finally have heard it, but have little desire to play it again any time soon, though.

Thanks for taking one for the team!

"Pirates" never won my ears over, either . . . .

Received this two disc set in the mail today, haven't listened yet. Scheduled for US release next week.

The new erato

I just ordered the remastered Trilogy. Heard Living Sin on radio and the remastering sounded amazing.

The deluxe edition also contains a 5.1 surround mix. Looking forward to it!

Also this coming week is the 40th anniversary release of Jethro Tull's Minstrel In the Gallery, which contains a 5.1 surround mix, and a live concert from 1975 (a tour that I saw!).
