I was thinking of Sir Frederic Cowen on Chandos, but Richardson definitely counts as well, so you get the next question.

Rossini was the other answer so mc ukrneal can also ask a question if he desires.

I at least got the Frederick part right.

You had the year right, too—both Frederick and Sir Frederic were born on leap day 1852. I'll give you half credit I guess.

My pleasure - OK: What is the connection between Stravinsky's Renard, Coventry City Football Club and a profession of interest to (nearly) all GMG members?

All I know is that, as of that one Monty Python episode, in the words of Eric Idle, "I'm sorry, Coventry City have never won the English Football Cup."

Coventry is a foxy club?
'fraid not - "The Foxes" are the sworn enemy from 20 miles up the M69, Leicester City FC.

Although not true any more, since they won it in what Shostakovich would doubtless have called "The Unforgettable Year 1987", if he had lived longer... and come from Coventry...

Singers?

Quite right - would you like to explain, so that everyone can appreciate the fiendish subtlety of my supposedly difficult question?

The FC was started by workers of the Singers bicycle factory, there's singers in Renard and as for the shared interest.....

Just one of my tortuous connections missing: Renard was commissioned, along with many other pieces of the time, by the Princesse de Polignac, who was originally (rather improbably I always think) a New Yorker called Winnaretta Singer - of the same sewing-machine family.  And yes, we all like singers, don't we?  Do you want to try to beat that for crossword-style perversity?

I was aware of the Princesse de Polignac, but had absolutely no idea she originally was a seamstress. A little whiff of Cinderelle hera, I think.

I'm bad at thinking up quizez and definitely need time if that is expected of me......

This question BTW was exceptionally well thought out.

No, thank you! :)

Below is a list of 15 composers and 15 movies. Match the correct film to the composer, assuming that the name of the film has something to do with a symphonic work (hint) by one of the composers. For example, Parnufnik's 6th symphony is also called Sinfonia Mysitca (or the Mystic Symphony). I might have matched it with the film Mystic Pizza.  So it is the name that is important, not the content.  I hope you enjoy it!

I've got most of them, but I can't figure out who wrote the "Itch" Symphony.

mc ukrneal

Well, I dont want to give it away too fast. But I do need to go to sleep, so will check first thing in the AM.

I think it's meant to be the 1917 Year Itch symphony...
