The Emperor

So, i started something today, it just came out, i thinking of doing a full strings work, kinda like a Chamber Symphony a la Shostakovich.

This what i did today, just 1.30m

Any comments, encouragemnt, criticism, observations, etc are welcome, this is kinda of new territory for me, so anything will help :)

I love the mood, the drama and the idea of a work for strings alone. However, I am hearing quite a bit more repetition that I would prefer. Were you going for a minimalist approach?

No problem. The result sounds to me more like Tchaikovsky than DSCH.

The Emperor

Yeh i definetely can see that, it doesn't remind me much of Shosty as well, which is a good thing, means i am not ripping him off eheh
One part actually reminds me of Dvorak's 7th symphony, i had no intention whatsoever, but it kinda reminds me of it.
Good thing i really like that Dvorak symphony  ;D

Haffner

Really liked the Symphony demo. Interestingly, I thought Mahler more than once.

The Emperor

Cool, Mahler is cool ;D

I'm taking a time off from the piece right now, i'll finish sometime in the future.

Just started reading a book about jazz theory, so i'm spending my time on the piano messing around and learning a bit more, very interesting.
I want to improve my piano skills!, it feels just great improvising over some basic jazz progressions, i imagine the pleasure it must be to play the more advanced stuff.
Damn time, so restrictive!!!

Especially when you're inspired. Best wishes to you and yours, Emperor.

Cheers Haffner, may the Metal Gods be always with you and yours! ;)

Something i just did,

http://www.mediafire.com/?a5bm2zpd4zw

Piano piece, it has a middle eastern feel in some parts, i tried to put some jazz in there too, and this is what came out.

It was molded after a series of improvisations.

I hear the jazz early. This piece at times makes me think of a Manhattan night: uncertain sometimes, deftly resolving others; the whole of this piece is the piece. The end is perfect.

The Emperor

Yeh i call it desert night, kinda of pun cuz jazz normally reminds me of the night.

Another piano piece i just did, it's been a while :) Enjoy.

I enjoyed it, Emperor, thanks for sharing.   :)

It unfolds nicely.  The first four or five chords first brought to mind Arvo Part's Fratres (it being in the phrygian mode)-- I wonder if you've heard Chick Corea's Children's Songs for piano? (no, they are certainly not songs for children to perform on the piano!)

Good job!

The Emperor

Tkx just josh, no i haven't heard those Chick Corea's pieces, i will give them a listen.
Yeh i see what you mean about the first 4 chords, maybe it was my subconscious working eheh

Anyway, tkx for listening and the comments :)

I really hope this doesn't rub you the wrong way, but I can hear a massively distorted guitat accompanying alot of this. But then I'm a Metalhead from wayyyy back. Very cool!

The Emperor

Actually i think i know what you mean.
One thing that really inspired me in this piece was flamenco guitar playing, so i went into the phrygian mode and at some times i kinda tried to emulate a guitar eheh
And of course, i'm a metalhead from way back too, so i guess sometimes that pops in the music 8)
