Let's see if we can arrange a collection of music for beginners. Let's begin, to keep things simpe, with a double cd set with only one-movement pieces of music. What would be your selection? Finally we can come to an agreement of the definitive selection. 2 cd's that's about 2*70 = 140 minutes of music.

Consequently we can do the same but then with lesser known music. Then you have two great (promotional) double cd sets! I think labels would be interested...

Or, to get things more simple: Pick some movements which considering you must be in a recording set for beginners.

For that to be of any use to a beginner, the collection should be kept down to some practically small volume.  What quantity do you suggest, and why?

Why is either criterion (double-CD set, only single-movement works) simple (and, presumably, desirable), particularly?

TIA :)

Too much music is not desirable, for the listener and for the effort it takes to compile. Single movement makes it possible to have a well-balanced selection of music, otherwise the recordings would be filled by a few works. Secondly it is necessary to realize this project, by one-movement parts the set will be promotional and labels may possibly be interested.

Ha! an agreement on a definitive selection? This mob agreeing on anything? Not gonna happen  :D

With some concessions. :)

Planning a selection around a CD (or 2CD) format is rather foolish since Youtube, Spotify etc are far more practical for introducing someone to the world of classical music.
Also, it's likely that a person who finds this place has already heard at least some music - more than an hour's worth, anyway.

I'd say that something akin to the GMG members' personal essentials would be a better way to go. The list could easily cover everything from early music to 21st century.

Probably true, though I shudder at the idea of that much exposure to flat, lifeless low-fi audio.
