What I was trying to say is that being at a live performance relieves you of this ever escalating "but X plays this note just a little better."

Being at a live performance is an exercise of being in the music in the moment, which is what it is about.

There are recordings that transcend the moment quite successfully. What about eternity? ;)

This thread is in a board dedicated to recordings, not live performances, so there is that.

The title of the thread (Beethoven's Piano Sonatas) doesn't distinguish between recordings and live performances - or sheet music for that matter. But we can ask the OP @George what he had in mind.

However he wrote this in the first post of the thread:

.... I have changed the topic to simply be "Beethoven's 32 Sonatas" so that we can have a thread to discuss anything in regards to these incredible works. Feel free to post reviews, your favorites, questions, etc.  :)

Did you do your writeup on Rita Bouboulidi's cycle yet?  You promised it last summer.

BTW have you considered the cycle by Hieyon Choi?

My first impressions have been mostly positive.

I became more and more opposed to her cycle with time. Many duds and only a few prunes, nothing to write home about.

Lucchesini?

I have never heard him perform live.  I have heard recordings of him performing live.  That should be a very simple thing to understand.

Yes, you're right. I didn't think about such a strict distinction. For example, I've listened to some pianists live, whose recordings I've also heard. Sometimes it's hard to tell what influences what.

Of course you didn't think of such a strict distinction, because it is just invented for the occasion.
