Yes, the macro-world is intriguing. Some of the real micro stuff is amazing, but it calls for a totally different set of gear (as you are pointing out).

No, I wasn't aware of the site. Thanks for posting! Very interesting photos, e.g. Christian Gautier's.

Your photo makes me think about late summer evenings and the sweet scent of lilacs (syren?)....   0:)
Cheers, Peter, that is pretty much what I wanted to capture in the photo. It was actually taken in the early afternoon, but there's lots of shade where I took the photo. :)

Thanks, Karl. :)

Great colors - especially the slow transitions between the different shades of brown. I love the venation at the top of the onion!

Another onion or two

The top part of the onion in the front resembles an arm and a hand reaching out....     ??? ???

As usual, I didn't notice that myself, but it certainly looks like the onion is about to shake hands  :P

That onion doesn't give up easily, it's still reaching out..

Also another one of these dead flowers from the archives, and a touch-up to the one below.

Thanks, Jeffrey.

I got this earlier this week in the mail, as posted elsewhere. It's a bit larger than either of those, but with 75 plates compared to the 200 of IN THE NATIONAL PARKS. I might have to get that too. (or the similarly sized '400 Photographs') The Canadian Rockies book is in portrait format, seems a bit strange.

I really like how you used the black&white to bring out the contrast in the rose. Great shot! I think you should crop it so only the flower remains. It seems like it would enhance the image. There is something about the lines in the surrounding matrix that distracts the eye...
So was that an old dry rose?

Yes, an old dry rose (what else could it be?)
It's not really b&w, but I have decreased the saturation quite a bit, and also added contrast and sharpened.
That cropping idea isn't a bad one, actually. ;)

I really like the whole set.
