Hmm, to follow Sarge's imagination I see a gray whale and her calf in the clouds (heading leftwards)...   ;)

Beautiful cloudscape!

Now, that's too much of a stretch for me.
Thanks, Peter.

I agree (although I wouldn't have "noticed" it without your comment).
Anyway, wonderful series, Karlo.
It's all good...

Well alright, but still the 'calf' looks more like a stingray to me...

Thanks, Al. Incidentally, I thought about entering the Finnish Nature Photograph of the Year competition (after seeing the not frighteningly high standards of award winners in recent years..) - but they want original files and I don't have those for most of my photos because of limited disk space. Oh well, if I'll take a good photo in the future, I'll probably make sure I save the original file.  ::)

Oh, you should enter, Karlo! Your shots are wonderful!  Hmm, so you compress your files thereby losing the original camera "signature"? Is that the issue?

Pretty much, yes - I shoot raw files, which need to be edited, and then save those as JPEGs.

So a professional photographer always has to keep the original file to be able to get credit for the work?

To make a large, high-quality print you need a large file size--so those are usually required for publication or contests.  Different places have different standards, but 10MB is pretty common (well, from my limited experience).  I shoot raw too, and always keep my original--for "good photos". I delete as many as possible--although not nearly as many as I should.  I have two hard drives for photos--one is a backup. I have about 120K pictures saved.  About 1% of those may be good enough to show to other people (hence my 1200 or so pics on flickr).  I delete about 60% of what I shoot, but would be wiser to delete 80-90%, but it's hard to kill your babies :'(

Around 4-12 MB for my full-size or so (24 MP, 4000*6000) JPEGs. My percentage of 'keepers' might be a bit higher than Al's, but I agree with the sentiment.
