I only have two words for iPod's EQ settings: they stink!

I don't use any EQ at all. Don't need it. A good headphone amplifier and a pair of headphones is all one needs. No twiddling with Apple's lousy EQ settings any longer!

Sorry for this continuing rant guys, but Apple should have offered a customizable 12-band EQ for their iPods. A company known for their excellence in audio and video really dropped the ball on these iPods in this regard.

So I suppose I'm the only one here who thinks Apple's EQs suck?

No I think it sucks too.  It is the only digital EQ that distorts the sound and lowers the volume that I've encountered.  Also how hard it is to have a graphic eq?

There are apps on the iphone that do EQ right fyi.

The problem is I'm using an iPod Classic, so obviously applications won't work. :(

But, yeah, Dave I agree that a graphic equalizer for something like an iTouch would be nice, but, than again, we'd be expecting too much from Apple if they actually provided their customers with something that could actually use. ::) :)

I use can opener.  I first got the app because I was intrigued by the idea that they had some headphones measured and could detect the headphone and equalize it to flat.  It does work!  But the catalog is not deep.  If it recognizes the headphone it can also tell you the volume level in dB's you have it set to.  Can opener also has cross feed, preset eq, graphic eq and numerical eq.  It is pretty cool but I think it costs a few bucks.

Sorry MI to hear about those iPod woes.  You might have to mess around with a program on your computer to modify the files by eq, and then have your iPod play them straight.  I would of course backup your files first as a precaution.  Might be too much of a hassle.

Well, it's not a problem, Dave. I simply turned off the EQ and it sounds great now. :) No more distorted or overemphasized frequencies. All is well in the digital world. 8)
