Quote from: lordlance on January 24, 2025, 10:11:43 PMThe number of Dorati boxes issued and that will be issued make me ask if there is any duplication. Are all boxes unique? If not, is there a way to know which discs are duplicated?

I'm sure there is no duplication among the eloquence releases. The great majority of the stereo Dorati recordings were released in the original MlP I, II and III boxes.
Formerly Scarpia (Scarps), Baron Scarpia, Ghost of Baron Scarpia, Varner, Ratliff, Parsifal, perhaps others.

Drop that from a bridge and you could kill someone.

79 ain't that much for a classical box set. Now the Bach333 or Complete DG/Decca Karajan on the other hand...
If you are interested in listening to orchestrations of solo/chamber music, you might be interested in this thread.

Ah, but even picking those up in order to drop them might be a real challenge.

You've got all the Delius recordings already. That's probably 1/3 of the box right there.

(So do I. Plus his Schubert and Grieg and I'll have to see what else.)

ETA

The Warner Beecham Delius budget box is 7 CDs. So we have 1/5 of this new set.

Yeah, besides the Delius, I've got his Grieg and Rimsky-Korsakov. But, as you said, we'll have to see what is all there. If I'm mistaken there is Puccini La bohème there, but it's mid-50s, so I'm not sure if it is stereo or not. And I know he made some 'French lollipop' recordings, too, but I'm not sure how many of those are in stereo.

About 4-5 CDs worth...cuz I've got that EMI box (which is six CDs but has some mono stuff sprinkled in)

The Boheme is mono. I have those French recordings, I'll have to dig them out to see what's what.

Not really. Only one of the seven discs is in stereo. That new 35cd set is of Beecham's stereo recordings only - if that's what it is. I'm surprised there's that many stereo recordings to start with. Beecham made stereo recordings from 1955 to 1960 in London and 1958-59 in Paris. That's an average of 6 cds a year minimum.

To quantify it--
I have the 6 CD set of French music, plus two matching sets devoted to Haydn/Mozart, and to 19th Century music (Beethoven to R Strauss). Out of 24 CDs total, 18 CDs worth are recordings from 1955 and later, 6 CDs worth are recordings from the 1930s/1940s.
(For some reason the track listings don't specify which are mono and which are stereo, but leave us to work it out from the dates.)
There was a a fourth set in the series, devoted to British music, which I didn't get because it had too many Delius recordings I already had.
The two composers among those sets for whom there were no or very few stereo recordings are Mozart and R Strauss. There are also two Berlioz overtures, Chabrier's Espana, and Massenet's Last Sleep of the Virgin, that are in mono.  All the other recordings of French music dates to the 1950s as does all the Haydn and all the 19th century stuff other than R Strauss. Of four CDs devoted to Mozart, about 3 1/2 are mono.
