Suggestions please.  Currently I have the Levine/Chicago Symphony and the Neumann/Czech Phil.

I have this recording:

London Symphony Orchestra/ Witold Rowicki

My favorite remains the stupendous Colin Davis Amsterdam recording coupled with the 8th (which is not nearly as good as the 7th). This recording has it all, powerful playing, distinctive timbral contrast, and gorgeous sound.

Other ones that I like, but not nearly as much as the Davis, are Mackerras, Neumann, and Dohnanyi.

"Non-box"? Probably this:

Wasn't there also a recording of the 7th with CSO/Giulini in the 70s? I know they did 8 and 9, and I seem to remember there was also a recording of 7 (I mean with the CSO on DG, I know on EMI there are also earlier recordings with him made in London), but I haven't found a trace of it anywhere...maybe my memory here is incorrect.

This is pretty good, too:

I enjoy this one as well.  Also Marriner with Minnesota....but then you get 8 and 9, a semi-box set.
There will never be another era like the Golden Age of Hollywood.  We didn't know how to blow up buildings then so we had no choice but to tell great stories with great characters.-Ben Mankiewicz

In no particular order: Szell, Harnoncourt, Talich.
The universe is change; life is opinion. - Marcus Aurelius, Meditations

People would rather believe than know - E.O. Wilson

Propaganda death ensemble - Tom Araya

If not Davis, then Schmidt-Isserstedt.

Not in a 'Boxed Set' that one!

Lethevich

My favourite is Neumann/Supraphon, but as that's in a 2CD set it may not count.

I would recommend avoiding the Davis/LSO Live recording (haven't heard the Amsterdam one) - non-transparent sound and feels a little turgid.

Szell.  Excellent recordings, and the Cleveland Orchestra plays spectacularly, of course.

And another vote for the Harnoncourt, very beautifully played.  I like The Wood Dove, too.  Another one worth seeing out is another one of those BBC Magazine offerings, with (I believe) the BBC and Gianandrea Noseda - an excellent performance and very good (live IIRC) recording.

Kubelik with the BPO for his very brahmsian take on this symphony.
At a loss for words.

Pierre Monteux with the LSO seems the best to me.

I own the Harnoncourt Dvorak symphonic poems set, so do you think it is worth acquiring this alone for the symphony?

I guess the fact that several people here recommended it in the context of this thread probably means that we do.
