I think he had in mind something like the following with a running tally (this is just a simple example using composers):
AMW:
Mahler +1
Schubert +1
Ligeti +1
Beethoven -2

Sgt Rock
Mahler +2 (+1)
Schubert +1
Bruckner +1 (+1)
Ligeti 0 (-1)
Beethoven -1 (+1)
Bizet -1 (-1)

Ukrneal
Maher +2
Mozart +1 (+1)
Bruckner +1
Beethoven +1 (+2)
Bizet -1
Ligeti -2 (-2)

And so on. Did I understand correctly?

Not exactly, but we could do that if people want. I was hoping lots of people would join so that individuals trying to throw off the results (*coughsargecough*) wouldn't have as much of an effect, but obviously that didn't happen.

You gave us too much power...and you know power will corrupt anyone, even me  >:D

the phone rings and somebody says,
"hey, they made a movie about
Mahler, you ought to go see it.
he was as f*cked-up as you are."

As the saying goes, absolute power corrupts absolutely, minuscule power corrupts... also absolutely...
Or something like that anyway

I think I misread the intention of this thread.  I thought from the OP that it was give a ranking to your favourite Schubert string quartet cycles on a scale of 1 to 7, which I gave the Melos Quartett a +7.  Guess I need to read more carefully.  :D

Seeing now, it is more of a free-for-all on string quartet ensembles.

Well, I'll vote +7 for Quartetto Italiano (for their Beethoven cycle).

Has nobody mentioned the LaSalle Quartet? Why not? How many other quartets specialised in modernist stuff during the 1960s . . .
