The ONLY time I saw a female poster object to any attitude on this site was one who objected to the stereotypical feminist dogmatizing of some of the censorious horse's asses amongst us.

As I said, they don't complain, they just leave. I have been here for 12 years, I have seen a lot of women come and go in that time, very few complained to the mods. In any case, I hear complaints every day that you don't see in public, so you can't base a lot on what you've seen since you've been here.  $:)

Cato made an ironic post here and Philo, missing the point, called him a horse's ass via your words. I echoed your words to point out that out ...

There are many female vocalists and musicians, not to mention listeners, who - one might think - would be interested in GMG and for whom the site would be useful.  But our site attracts and appeals - for the most part - to the collector and that has traditionally been the province of the male who - at least since the 1950s - has regarded hi-fi, of whatever genre, as his province and domain.  You will remember the scene in the Diner when the fiancée, Beth, comes face-to-face with this territory.  Maybe they "just want to hear the music..."  If so, some of us (myself included) just might envy them from time to time.

I've never really understood the desire to get every single version of the same piece of music or the focus on absolute perfect sound quality. The extent of music collection for me is basically having complete collections of composers/musicians that I like.

Me too. We are a very collectro-centric (euphony) group here, and the only way to avoid it is to do your own thing or leave. I choose to do my own thing. Many choose to leave. :-\

Ah yes indeed. Unfortunately too quiet though, I haven't seen you in a dog's age! Hope you are well. :)

I have been a member just for some years, but I disagree, Gurn.

I think they leave simply because don't have the same level of musical fetichism that we have (CDCDCD and all of that), so I guess  this board is quickly boring to them.

I know it sounds a bit simplistic, but I believe this forum isn't really full of jerks and ladies aren't these days the delicate flowers they used to be. They can be rough, too, and know how to play hard... if they are interested. :)

I have no doubt this is a contributing factor. Hell, we have plenty of guys who leave because they can't deal with the competitiveness of some of our more avid members. No matter the gender, it usually comes down to having an element of thick skin, because it becomes virtually impossible to say anything without pissing someone off.  :)

I must admit that I do check in here more often than I end up posting. Believe you me, when there is something posted that catches my eye, I will reply.  :)

Thank you for asking about my welfare, Gurn. I am surviving.  8)

This forum is not for everyone.  First you have to be into collecting big time.  And then you have to have very specific tastes to find these threads interesting.  I have never seen such highly specialized discussions on the other classical music forums.  The focus tends to be on composers only a handful of listeners in the entire world listen to, or alternatively the most esoteric pieces famous composers ever wrote.  These are not interesting threads to most classical music listeners.

I know both girls and guys that listen to classical, I just don't know any that obsessively collect cds and lps.
