And pray tell me where they are a more popular subject? There are lots of fans of living composers (and obviously of [other] living musicians, too), and a few living composers, too, on this forum.

I don't know about that: I see a lot of clamoring over disk releases from guys that have been dead since I was 10...

My own preference: dead composers, living musicians. YMMV... :D

Eek!

It's OK, Karl, it's only a preference, not written in stone. Some of my favorite musicians will die one day too... :-\

An odd reaction, Karl, to the sentiment "Henning will only improve as time passes."

;)

Wait till he's dead; he will be considered the greatest, unheralded composer of his time. :)

Try Pelle Gudmundsen-Holmgreen composer of 'Musikken er et monster' played by the Kronos Quartet.

Well, there you go:  if the Kronos Quartet play the music, the composer is no longer totally obscure.  The music has already been performed by a world-acclaimed ensemble.

This is already three notches better than my own situation  8)

Understood.

Still, even as a preference, it gave this composer pause  ;)   8)

This is not really a music site primarily, it's a recordings site, for collectors. In other words Gordo is right. He,s not the only one to make this point, Moonfish did as well.

My teachings have been distorted! ;D  ;)

I don't think this is a board of mere collectors. I even dislike the word "collector" because (to me) it's almost a bad word, referred to a sort of fetishist, an accumulator of material things. On the contrary, I think this is a board of "listeners" and music lovers, a "company of dilettanti" (in the original sense of the last word), as opposed to a board of professional performers or musicians, even if here there is a good number of professional performers and composers. But even the last ones are principally listeners, when they participate here.

If this were about literature, this board would be a forum of readers, as opposed to a forum of writers or editors.

Accumulation (collectionism) is simply an accident, too much regular, but an accident.

I think that describes most of GMG perfectly :P

Agreed.  Even confining the discussion to musical activities, collector would rank low among my titles  8)
