What are your thoughts on tea? Do you drink it?

Personally I am addicted. My favourite is Lapsang Souchong (with milk  :o), it has a unique smokey flavour which I love. One day, driving in to work I felt really bad, couldn't think why...and then I realised..I had not drunk a cup of tea that morning. As soon as I had some at work I was fine again.

I expect that you Americans drink mainly Coffee and the Dutch drink that bottled custard that was delivered by the milkman (in 1973 anyway)  ;D.

In case you think that this is not a serious topic, George Orwell wrote an essay on "The perfect cup of tea", arguing, for example that the milk had to be put in at the end (I don't agree but I see the argument.)
Some of us over here love tea as well.  I love Lapsang Souchong too!  And there's nothing quite like a deep earthy Puerh.  And I love greens and oolongs too. -- Reminds me, I need to get over to that Indian market here in Denver and pick up some Assam for chai...

On the weekend we went to a tea shop and were served tea, Keemun, brewed in this.

It's great because it is easy to clean and quick. It is imperfect because it's not as hot as a pot with cozy but I decided I am way more likely to actually use this. I don't use my pot. So I am going to drink more tea, see if I get back to it.

I paid 20 at the brick and mortar.

I broke this in today, with a decent Earl Grey blend, one of my favourite teas. I pronounce it a notable success. No bitterness, easy to clean, and very aromatic tea. I need to up the leaf amount a touch, but I am well pleased and can see drinking more tea now as I hoped.

Loose tea really is much better than even high end bags.

I am a tea drinker myself. I hate coffee with a passion (sorry all of you coffee lovers). Nothing like living in Vienna, Austria which is a huge coffee loving city and my Viennese husband is of course a huge coffee fan.

Anyway, I love my English Breakfast tea which is pretty much my standard tea. Now another favorite of mine is a fruit tea called Wintermärchen (Winter Fairy Tale) from the famous Viennese tea house Demmers. This tea is lovely especially when the outdoor temps gets colder and it's also good when I am feeling under the weather. I had never heard of this tea until I received a tin of it from a scottish friend of mine for Xmas about 10 years ago.

So, here in Vienna the temps are dropping...time for a cup of Wintermärchen tea.  8)

Ha! We have something in common! I never drink coffee, but my wife can't live without it (she loved the Viennese coffee too). I love fruit teas (anything non-caffeine really, with the exception of some exotic flavors), so that is one I will definitely look out for. I'm not sure we get Demmers in the US - do you know if there are other brands that make it (or something similar)?

Here is their website so you can check out their tea collection. I know that they ship orders throughout Europe but I am not sure if they also ship to the USA. You might have to send them an e-mail to their contact address to find that out. At least you can check out the different teas and see what the main ingredients are for those teas.

Thank you! The one you mentioned may have some similar ones here - I'm sure I have seen Cinnamon Vanilla in combinations, so will just need to look what fruits they combine with (in this case it's apple, hibiscus, rose hip). I'll let you know if I find an equivalent, though it may take a little looking.

In Paris, we have the Mariage Frères boutiques. I've discovered it more than 10 years ago and I almost can't drink anything else anymore. They have teas from all origins, and literally hundreds of blends (they must have around 20 earl grey blends only), some of them are classics (Marco Polo is their biggest seller I think). I always keep a dozen of their teas, some I buy again, others I change from time to time.

OMG!!! This tea store in Paris is awesome and I could spend hours in there. If I ever get the chance to visit Paris this tea heaven will be top of my list.

Just looking through their different tea choices, I did find a few that I would love to try. Thanks for posting their website. So many teas, so little time... 8)

Well, hours, I don't know, but a long time for sure, smelling different blends before choosing one.
Currently my favourite blend is "Thé au Tibet", with a mix of citrus and a hint of vanilla. Also, after drinking a lot of Earl Grey "French Blue" I switched to Ruschka, less flowery and more to my taste actually.
Among my favourites, the black tea labeled "Fruits rouges" is actually not as plain as its name. Marco Polo, Tsar Alexandre (which is a blend of smoked tea) are also not their biggest seller without a reason.
If you like green tea, I recommend Madame Butterfly and Bel Ami. Thé sur le Nil also.
I usually drink rooibos in the evenings while listening to music (does that sound too bourgeois :-[ ?), and my forever favourite blend is Kimberley (cherry is its dominant flavour).

If you are an Amazon Prime subscriber they have some exceptional prices on high end tea from Tattle Tea. These are as add ins for Prime only, but high end Darjeeling for $6 a pound as an example. Loose only. The prices are disappearing fast. I ordered some decaf tea just before its price more than tripled.

Thanks for the tip - my wife checked and didn't see the Deal, but on your recommend will keep an eye on this company's offerings.  Btw, you're correct - as usual  ??? - a little bit o' smoky Lapsang goes a long way to adding depth and dimension to black tea!  I quite like it. Thankee.

And what are you drinking decaf for?  don't you wanna stay up and listen to classical music?

Yeah, some of the SDCBs are gone  :( Stuff that sells at $60 or more a pound I picked up for $3.60 for a third of a pound. I suspect they confused units somewhere along the line.

Welcome.  ;)
