Actually it was Blind Willie Johnson who also wrote Nobody's Fault But Mine

Which I've heard sung by Doc Watson.  "If I die, and my soul be lost, it ain't nobody's fault but mine."

I knew Dylan wasn't the Ur-text;  I only speculated that the Leds might know Dylan more readily than Blind Willie.

Anyway alot of people are saying Physical Graffiti, and I can't help but think that half the songs I really like, half the songs I don't care for, it would be better as a single album instead of a double album.

I partially agree, though who's to say that their idea of the best songs is yours? As it stands, you could assemble your own single album.

BTW, I feel the exact same way about The Wall by Pink Floyd. I have been pondering the idea of editing it into one CD and now think that I will do so. I'll post my picks on the upcoming Pink Floyd Thread.

I could do that, but what I ended up is going with a 4 cd collection of greatest hits-- it had all of the songs that I liked, and no songs that I didn't.  It ended up working out pretty well, so that's what I kept.

Before I did that, I actually did make an mp3 cd of my favorite songs, and that was pretty fun.  I did that with the Who as well as Black Sabbath. :)

I figured I would resurrect this thread/poll seeing as I'm currently going through the Led Zeppelin studio discography. So far I've listened to I through IV and have enjoyed them all. My least favorite is probably II, although it did have several redeeming songs like the hard-rocking classic Whole Lotta Love and another favorite Ramble On, but as a whole, it felt comparatively weaker than I and even III. I've got to say that III and IV were outstanding. I love each of these albums. Next up will be Houses of the Holy which I remember enjoying when I was a teenager.

All of this said, I can't vote for any albums yet. :)

The new erato

I love Zeppelin, but I wish they were more honest about crediting some of their more blatant rip-offs:

They wouldn't be lesser artists if they actually paid some royalties to people who deserved it.

BTW, all the musicians from whom they 'stole' a riff or lick from are credited or at least in my Complete Studio Recordings box set they are. The way I look at it is while Page may have stole a chord progression from say Taurus by Spirit, the structure and progression of Stairway To Heaven couldn't be more different. Plus, riffs are stole all the time in rock music. Personally, I don't think Taurus sounds anything like Stairway To Heaven or vice versa. I think this is just another case of a band wanting a piece of Zeppelin's fortune.

The new erato

Well some of the other excerpts are pretty blatant. And they are not credited on the original albums; I know, because I have them.

Well, they may not be credited on the original albums, but there are other editions available for purchase. Anyway, it doesn't matter to me because Page, Plant, Jones, and Bonham developed the music in a completely original way that, interestingly enough, couldn't be emulated.

Houses of the Holy
Physical Graffiti

Forty years later, pretty much still my favorite rock band.

Led Zeppelin are far from my favorite band. They're great, but my favorite will always be Genesis (the progressive rock period only). I didn't give a crap about their sell-out albums where they played for the masses and acted like corporate sheep all for the almighty dollar or in their case pound. Okay, I'll stop ranting about Genesis now. :) Back to Zeppelin.
