Will send you some more recipes soon.   I've enjoyed oat milk - really like oats! - but  must say I prefer the almond.  I really miss the Eden Carob Soy milk which I used to drink a lot of but don't see anymore.
I developed a disgust for milk when I was a vegan. I love rice milk but it's expensive and hard to get where I live. Soy milk is quite common and cheap in Japan but most people have never heard of rice milk here. Beef does seem to be ridiculously detrimental to the planet yet it's the empathy that makes me feel guiltier. I heard an interview with Jonathan Safran Foer, who wrote a book on the meat industry that got me thinking. I know I really don't want to see what's going on in the industry. He made the point that if someone treated a pet the way animals are treated in the food industry, they'd be arrested. Yet, I could never be as fanatical as some vegans I know who won't even wear wool.

Milk, how did you feel as a vegan, health-wise?

I never found the wool, leather, etc. (inc. honey) argument to be that compelling either.  I'm all into recycling after you're gone - if I could be a pair of shoes, a belt, a purse it wouldn't trouble me.  Gives new meaning to the counsel:  "Put yourself in his shoes..."

To be honest, I don't remember if I felt physically healthier or not.

And your name on here is "milk," why?...

Cool. That explains it.  8)
It's still part of my identity. Even after 20 years.

My mom believed some form of meat had to make up the bulk of every dinner.  I still like meat, but find it's just as satisfying to use a small quantity to flavor/complement the other parts of the meal.  If there is not meat at all and tastes good, so much the better.   I don't eat veal because of animal cruelty, but don't feel particularly guilty about eating animals.  I also used to drink about a quart of milk a day, but switched to Soy to reduce fat intake.
I disagree with James' suggestion that if we couldn't buy meat in the store we would start hunting or raising animals to eat.  That's way to much work!  Legumes and nuts are also delicious, and high in protein.  When I'm trying to put on muscle, I actually drink tons of soy milk rather than eating lots of meat.
I took my kids fishing last month. My first time in years, and their first time ever.  We all had a great time.
It's all good...

Is it still meat then?  Isn't that more like a ... blood donation?

I was going to start a thread on vegetarianism but this will do nicely.  The last post in it was long ago and by some dragon-wanna-be named Zauberdrachen Nr. 7!

GMG vegetarians! Stand-up and be counted, please.  (This call to organize inspired by the article I unfortunately stumbled upon below:  "Does Wild Game Benefit From Hanging and Aging...?"  I'd hazard an unprofessional guess and say that no, there's nothing in it for wild game).

We raised that lamb.... we loved that lamb

As for the lamb, it loved us too and it knew it was its greatest honor to be sacrificed for the family's nourishment.

When the time came to slaughterrr the lamb, the lamb looked up at us with those big lamb eyes and said, "Thank you for loving me so much, I gladly give myself to you because I love you so much."

Everyone cried, it was so meaningful.

I doubt your lamb with the big lamb eyes, if it could baaa in English, would say what you would wish it to say, anymore than you would if the positions were reversed. Forgive me, snyprrr, if I find the weeping insincere but THANKS for your comment! (Besides, as is being increasingly proven, meat is NOT good for you).

Behold the Lamb of God! God be braised!

"While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, 'Take and eat; this is my body.'"  Hey, it could happen to any of us...

A lamb doesn't have a concept of what will eat it. I do, and I don't attribute my concepts beyond their useful range. Not wanting to be eaten plays a role on avoiding situations where I might be. Lambs and other creatures avoid being eaten without the concepts.

We can and do protect animals, and could desire to do more. For myself I would like to see that happen, based on the understanding that this is a feature of human and not lamb culture. If we decide that we don't want to inflict needless suffering on animals we'll figure out what that means from a non-lamb perspective whatever lambs baa.

I go to county fairs once or twice a year. The lambs are just terrific, doing a great job. I have a non-bacon-related fondness for the little spotted pigs. I do get irritated by the way the rabbits come in all sizes and colors, and with floppy ears. Who authorized that? Cows take up too much space. I get the impression that beyond food and animal power the domestication of animals is primordial for humans as with other species, preconscious, so when we finally got to being creatures with reasons for ourselves, we projected them onto animals and plants and organized them into patterns that are almost like art, a concept about life that arrived a very long time ago when concepts generally began to form.

This is actually not true (either entirely false or only partially true depending on the specifics). Some meat is quite healthy for us - rich in vitamins and such. But it also depends what kind of meat we are discussing (processed meats for example are indeed a problem), how you prepare those meats and how much of them you eat.
