...I thought you might want to know who the stranger barging in on your discussions is, so I decided to give a formal greeting  ;D . You can call me Det. I am a classical music fan of about two years from the US. My budget is limited, so box sets have become good friends of mine. Also, I daresay I am a bit younger than most people here, so if I seem a bit naive or inexperienced, that is why.

Just to give you an idea of my tastes, the five composers I'd say I listen to most (I won't say 'favorite', that's too strong a word) are Beethoven, Nielsen, Shostakovich, Sibelius and Mahler.

Well, you could say the name caught my eye. :)

That's good, lots of box set lovers here. Yours truly included. Where would we be without 'em?

Nice list. I like Beethoven too. ;)

Weren't you at the old forum, Det?

I stumbled across it in its last days, but it wasn't until after the new forum was already created that I stumbled across it again and actually posted. If there was a user with this name at the old forum, I would like to apologize for stealing it... though I admit, it's kind of a pain to type it in every time I want to log in, so I doubt they'd miss it.

Where's the name from? Oh, and check your PM. ;)

I just PM'd this to you, but it's the original language name to Carl Nielsen's Fourth Symphony. Just to be clear, though, I have no Nielsen obsession - he just happened to have the most interesting titles for his symphonies and he just happened to be photogenic enough for me to use his picture as an avatar.

Looking dapper here  ;)

Hollywood

Greetings from Beethoven's Heiligenstadt, Det. Welcome to the forum.  8)

Hey Det, and welcome.  Nice to see someone promoting Nielsen!  He could use more exposure, especially in the United States.  Even in New York (i.e., lots of concerts) you rarely see anything other than the Fourth Symphony on programs, or maybe the Helios Overture.  Quite a shame!

(BTW, not knowing the origin of your handle at first, I thought it might be Dutch!  :D)
