!!!! I HEAR YOU!!!!

"U2 plans on selling rose coloured 'Peace Glasses' on their upcoming World Tour."

I could never get it straight: was it album sales that were the moneymaker, or the tour? It must be the tour, considering how many acts still tour even though they haven't had an album in 20 years? (per our friend GS)

Right, albums don't make money anymore because, like Uncle Gene says, kids steal them off the innernetz.

So, why release albums anymore? Better to release one song at a time on occasion (make it a really good one) and promote this way.

Karl Henning

I shan't listen to a U2 album even for free.  Count on me to opt out . . . .

Maybe they believe in albums, even if they are giving it away for free.

I can think of reasons to release an album, like if it's a concept or something, but it's really old thinking.

Karl Henning

But if there is a mindset that it has to be a concept album, you're enabling a thousand lame excuses for a concept album.

Just saying.

I'm just saying, there is no reason to group songs into "albums" anymore if you're selling pop music because it's all about the single anyway. Especially when albums don't sell except to weirdos on music forums.

But they're not trying to sell it. . .
And second, pop music has been about singles for a long time (always?) anyway

Right, so no need for albums.

Karl Henning

Well, I agree this much:  I have no need of U2 albums  8)

If they devoted the care to their music, which they do to their banking . . . .

...the "kids" would still steal it.  :D

I guess it still impresses to say you are giving away a WHOLE ALBUM!!!
