Interesting program but too much old recordings

I'm listening to the third quartet now, for the first time. I stumbled across it after trying to enjoy his recording of Satie's La Mort de Socrate - but as always with this music I couldn't get through more than half of it despite excellent impassioned singing from Paul Darenne.

I can say this much about the quartet - it is distinctive, chromatic I guess. It's from 1979 apparently, here's the booklet of the recording

I'm ok with the old recordings, but I find there's too much Messiaen  :-*

Surely but for Sauguet With the exception of symphonies, orchestral works are underrepresented on record.
