Minneapolis-based composer Dominick Argento died yesterday. While I haven't heard some of his more important works (e.g., opera), my first exposure to his music was a live broadcast of Casa Guidi (1983) with Frederica von Stade, for whom it was written. Here is the obituary in the Star-Tribune, and from 2012, a very fine studio recording of the first song in the 20-minute cycle, with von Stade, Eiji Oue, and the Minnesota Orchestra.
