OK, for anyone who cares, I have listened to just about every stereo recording of every Bruckner symphony available in full on Spotify and have put together a playlist of the top performances of each version of every symphony. Enjoy.

Did you hear the 2008 recording by the Nationaltheater-Orchesters Mannheim conducted by Layer of the Mazzucca finale?

the phone rings and somebody says,
"hey, they made a movie about
Mahler, you ought to go see it.
he was as f*cked-up as you are."

Nope. I was limited to what I could find in Spotify. I find the Bosch performance rather unsatisfying, I must say. The Inbal performance of the 1984 version is much more compelling. I hope someone good records the 2010 revision soon.

Well, at least I won't be tempted to buy the Bosch too. A Stereophile article reviewing all the completions thought the Mannheim recording the best. I was wondering if you agreed with that.

My mom actually played as sub in the first violins in the Bosch/Aachen performance. I really tried to like it.  ;)

I actually can't find that Layer recording you mention anywhere, not arkiv, not amazon, not jpc.

Yeah, not easy to acquire. The theater sold them at one point. I got mine through Berky's web store, but--just took at look--it's sold out.

Berky is still selling it as a download. Since you have it, what do you think of the Layer performance and how does it compare to other completions you have?

Barenboim Chicago vs. Berlin, thoughts on how they differ? (All I've heard is the excellent Berlin Sixth.)

There is another 1874 Bruckner 4th (this is the one I have)
