Thanks.
So perhaps in Danish-language texts, we would read about Arnold Schønberg?

I should probably let the Danes answer that one, but I think one factor is that a smaller country like Denmark understands that other people write and speak differently and are okay with that...

Danish wikipedia uses "Schönberg".

This may not be super ugly, but it's quite dumb looking and reflects the ultra-low budget of many jazz labels.

Hey, it's the dude's first LP and his name's Cedar, let's use a photo of a board!

Yes, in the old days, early 20th century, they'd sometimes use Schønberg here. For example, Niels Viggo Bentzon wrote an article, 'Omkring Arnold Schønberg' in the DMT magazine in 1954. But nowadays, they'll use the correct German or, if less knowledgeable, maybe the English spelling.

BTW, there has also been a local Schønberg family here, well into the 20th century and including a famous actor Ib S., but apparently it is now extinct.

A chockfull of worst LP artwork. http://waxidermy.com/blog/features/stock-covers/

One to admire, but he is not activating me! That is for sure.

Strange how all those are also very representative for a good part of the taste of their age ... the 70s-80s revisited ...

I arrived in the US in 1980. I remember all posters (and LP covers) seemed to feature lots and lots of chest hair.
Do what I must do, and let what must happen happen.

A shoe brand my company sells is
BØRN FOOTWEAR
Their logo includes a crown inside that ø.
They're based in California.

Ironically, the based-in-Denmark brand we carry, Ecco, uses o, not ø.

ETA
What, by the way, is the proper pronunciation and name for ø?
You sell some great shoe brands!  :)

English accents vary a lot, never mind my Danish one, but I would pronounce "børn" in Danish and "burn" in English reasonably close to each other.

"Børn" is pronounced with stød, the vowel is shorter and the "r" is sharper pronounced than in "burn", so the sounds are rather different.

I know the vowel is shorter, and we weren't really talking about the consonant pronunciations anyway but as an Australian I'm not doing a lot of pronunciation of an "r" in anything frankly. I'm non-rhotic.

A very instructive Ø-pronunciation video here, but it's right there at the beginning  ;D

"ø" also just means 'island', as a one-letter word.

1956

To be clear, I find nothing objectionable about the cover.  What I do find amusing is that Decca U.S.A. thought an apologia, priinted on the jacket back, was necessary:

"While there is obviously no direct relationship between Bronzino's magnificent portrait and Hector Berlioz' "HAROLD IN ITALY", there are many freely esthetic associations.  Bronzino's painting breathes a sort of royal melancholy and glows with opulence of color, reminiscent of Berlioz' romantic tonal palette"....

MusicTurner

Interesting; it's quite rare that covers include the effort of such explanations, unless there is some direct relation between the music and the cover.
But in the case, the "many freely esthetic associations" are indeed rather free, due to chronology etc.

I was sampling this set this week, *shudder*

Good performances, but do I need a third set of Hartmann SQs? I have Pellegrini and Zehetmair.

It makes sense from a conductor's point of view, you're no longer relegated to making ~ 20-25 minute movements along with a whole host of other benefits.
