Elgar-3-NMC.jpg

I suspect with this Elgar 3 the idea - perhaps a lame play on words - was the the "negative" image was of the existing sketches played without Payne's elaborations and the standard photograph of the complete Symphony was after the negative had been "developed"?? [doesn't make it a good cover image mind!]

The chap on the cover is clearly Kepler. In his right hand he holds a stick with his own head impaled on it; in his left, something that at first glance looks like chopsticks, though it's rather more likely some antique astronomical contraption.

His head and hands float about independently against a star-strewn sky. All of which, in its own whimsical way, ties in rather nicely with the notion that our bodily sensations are fleeting and disjointed, while the idea of the body as a whole and unchanging is nothing more than a construct of the mind.

A drawing compass, I assume. You didn't use one in school?

Yes, I had compasses when I was a child, different kinds: measuring ones with two needles at the ends, and drawing ones with a needle and a lead. In our school curriculum, drafting held quite a prominent place.

Most likely, anyone unfamiliar with classical music judging by those album covers will assume that the people who listen to it are some sort of peculiar degenerates.

The Farinelli one has an obvious point about the nature of music for castrati and how it's performed today.
Nobody has to apologise for using their brain.

I never knew what that thing is called in english. In Finnish it is called harppi. We also have the word kompassi, which means normal compass.

Apparently there is this constellation named circinus that has the shape of a drawing compass. Maybe this constellation has been used in navigation?
Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural
and less tiresome in headphone listening.

Alas....I find them rather light hearted, even fun. Maybe a bit silly & "risqué", c'est tout.
Bartolli looks like Conchita  ;)

Well, I suppose we can now safely say that, having finally managed to look like Conchita, Cecilia Bartoli has at last accomplished something in her life.

Sales of over 12 million recordings apparently not counting.  ::)

I'm inclined to believe that Cecilia Bartoli's widespread popularity, entirely deserved in my view, is due not to the silly covers of a few of her albums but rather in spite of them, and above all thanks to her magical voice and artistry.

And to conclude on this: CB has every right to look exactly as she pleases, yet others also have the right to think and speak about how she looks on certain covers. Freedom of expression works both ways.

After all, what is the point of a public figure if the public cannot form any opinion about their appearance?

You didn't comment on her appearance. You suggested that she had not otherwise accomplished anything in her life. If you'd stuck to commenting on her appearance, I wouldn't have made that response.

My words were a comment on a post where Bartoli was compared to some strange character, presumably a man with a woman's name. Look up the meaning of the word irony in the dictionary.

We can all read.

Having said that, I have no intention of reading further on this particular question.

Pleased to see you got it all sorted out in the end, even if it wasn't exactly lightning speed. ;)
