A release that I've been playing a lot of over the past few weeks ~

Follakzoid III
[asin]B00SN565WQ[/asin]
My pick for release of '15, so far. . .  Sort of a more trance-induced Stone Roses from Santiago, Chile.   :)

Föllakzoid began seven years ago as a trance experience between childhood friends Diego, Juan Pablo, and Domingo from Santiago, Chile. Heavily informed by the heritage of the ancient music of the Andes, the band has learned to integrate this influence with contemporary sounds of their times, creating a rich yet minimal atmosphere. III is a four-part minimal sound voyage in which you can hear Föllakzoid's musical language developing into something more upbeat, obscure, and sharp, yet even simpler in terms of elements.

Never waste a good reason for a purchase....  ;)

Whoa! Never heard of these guys, but I've checked the album via their bandcamp and I'll probably end up buying it! Great tip, thanks.

Cool, man!  Glad you dig them.  Their 2nd release, titled II, is also excellent, though this latest one is my favorite.  My buddy caught them at the recent Levitation Festival in Austin, TX and was blown away; said they were the real highlight of the festival.

Thank you, Rinaldo, for the heads-up on the Bitchin Bajas.   ;)

Thread duty ~

Lumen Drones
[asin]B00NLRZLKS[/asin]

Lumen Drones is a fascinating and powerful collaboration between Hardanger fiddle master Nils Økland and Per Stainar Lie and Ørjan Haaland, respectively guitarist and drummer with the Norwegian "post-rock" group The Low Frequency In Stereo. The participants describe their project as a psychedelic drone band, but its stylistic reach is broad and evocative and will trigger many musical associations. Specific influences include the Doors, The Velvet Underground, Sonic Youth, Durutti Column and "the jazz of the Dave Pike set," but the Lumen Drones also rove through modal, ambient, multi-folk, minimal and noise zones, making exciting music all the way...

Here's a thing that captivated me recently: music from the Saharan region of Africa, specifically this album:

(link under picture)

The whole 'sahelsounds' label is worth exploring. My other favourite is an older release cobbled up from lost cellphone ringtones.

Another great gaming soundtrack, fresh off the digital shelves:

Give the first track a spin and tell me it's not gorgeous! But the whole thing is a lot of fun, trying to capture the spirit of 70's latino jazz records to accompany a game about a housekeeper working in the apartment of a fictitious South American dictator.

If you're not familiar with Austin Wintory, he's the gaming equivalent of.. hmmm.. Howard Shore? Morricone? Very prolific, very high standard to everything he touches. And this is one of his masterpieces.

A recent find, recommended to Aphex Twin fans and glitch connoisseurs in general:

Listening to the new Hot Chip album, Why Make Sense?, the bass synth on the first track is ACE.

For those who'd prefer something soulful, this Australian group caught my eyes with the cover to their new record

and my ears with the second half of it.

While I belong to the crowd that didn't enjoy Go, Grimes' single from the then-upcoming album, and felt she might be dissolving towards a mainstream sound, I really like the track that she scavenged from the now-scratched record.

Looking forward to whatever her new stuff ends up to be. The girl's a pop marvel.

Looking forward to the new Tame Impala record and I wonder if The Chemical Brothers can still bring it. Don't care for the video, but the single sounds good.

Yes Ill be interested to see if its a good album - I quite liked the last couple of CB albums (although I did have an adverse reaction to We are the Night on my first listen!) :)

Heres another one that will be released soon - a new New Order record:

[asin]B01082MTSU[/asin]

Im not the biggest NO fan but I do have a few of their records (gotta love the Substance compilation too - that ones a corker!).
The blurb for the album says the band are completely revitalized for this one - I am a bit sceptical but I will give it a chance for sure.

Same here, not a fan but I'm intrigued.

The new Ratatat album will be out soon, and as always, I didn't enjoy it from start to finish but there are a few standout tracks that capture what I love about these guys:

Also, listened to the new Tame Impala album and it surpassed my expectations. Recommended to anyone who feels like pop music has nothing to offer anymore.

'Monday Metal'

I'm pretty late to the party and I'm still not sure if I want to party but hey, if there's a band that sounds like the pAper chAse and Swans had a pub crawl, I'm interested. Meet norwegian noise rockers Årabrot:

They've got a new EP out and it's pretty good. Currently listening to their  eponymous album from two years ago.

RED ALERT RED ALERT RED ALERT RED ALERT

I almost didn't bother to check out the new Titus Andronicus record. 90+ minutes?  :o Supposedly a 'rock opera'? ???

[asin]B00WY8IYAY[/asin]
Boy, was I wrong. Somehow, it just works and I urge everyone to check it out. It's as if Springsteen formed Bad Religion and decided to put out a huge conceptual album about depression.

mewithoutYou have a new record out, Pale Horses:

[asin]B00XLQW616[/asin]
It didn't impress me as much as their previous efforts but fans are raving about it and it's definitely worth checking out.

This older song of theirs is one of my favorite 'anthems':

https://www.youtube.com/v/7LFI0dGe1tc

Quote from: Torches TogetherWhy pluck one string, what good is just one note?
Oh, one string sounds fine, I guess but we were once 'one notes',
We were lonely wheat quietly ground into grain
What light and momentary pain!
So why the safe distance, this curious look?
Why tear out single pages when you can throw away the book?
Why pluck one string when you can strum the guitar?

Strum the guitar!
Strum the guitar!
