I have a big phone interview tomorrow. I am very well qualified for the position, but I know the competition will be intense.

How do you approach phone interviews? I heard some people advising that it would be good to get up as always, take a shower, shave, get dressed up in a suit to put oneself in the proper mood--Instead of sitting there in my sweats, unshaven, groggy from having gotten up early (Europe time!).

Also, can anyone help me with the latest business/managemtent/organizational buzzwords and buzz-concepts--specifically:

•   Knowledge of management and organizational concepts, principles, practices and techniques

My knowledge is a bit lacking in this area.

Thanks

I think I saw this too late. How'd it go?

The thing about the dressing up can be useful, but it depends on the person. Either way, you don't want to be groggy.

Thanks, It went pretty well--everyone was friendly and seemed interested in (and in agreement with) what I had to say. Aside from that, they have to be circumspect at this point, and who knows what decision they might reach, or who the other applicants are.  8)

I will say this: I recently had a phone interview which led successfully to an in-person interview. And I forgot the phone interview was happening, so I got the call while walking into the bathroom. Turned around, walked out of the bathroom, took 4-5 minutes to get my brain in the right mindset (this was not ideal), and then was good enough in the final 20 minutes that they called me back.

So I'm a believer in being prepared to converse about the job, but I'm not a believer in that stuff about shaving and dressing up!

Saw this too late to respond but it sounds as if it went well. I was interviewed over the phone for a university place (I did not have enough money to travel up to the North of England by train and my parents were on holiday abroad) when I was 18. I was polite and courteous and showed interest. Different situation I know but it worked and they offered me a place.

As I recall you have a very specialized skill set. They aren't just looking for a generic capable guy. So if it seemed to go well it probably went very well. G'luck.
