"Space Seed" last night.  I probably watched The Wrath of Khan the season that it was released, yet it is only now that I've watched the "prequel"  8)

“A Taste of Armageddon” last night.  I was certain that I had seen the actor who played Anan 7 before, and lo! I had, indeed: it was David Opatoshu, who played Mr Jacobi in Torn Curtain.

Star Trekking on:  "This Side of Paradise" last night.  Particularly good, I thought, though one could only wish that there were addictive/parasitic conditions which could be fixed simply by a snit of violent emotion.  The Girl Who Always Loved Mr Spock was a fun element.  One could argue that the storyline is a bit of a re-tread of "The Naked Time";  or, even, "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" with a happy resolution.

All in all, even as I have the occasional quarrel, I consider the series a success ("I believe it has given general satisfaction," says Jeeves) and I enjoy it entirely.

Star Trekking on:  "The Devil in the Dark" last night.  This is one of the shows I had actually seen before, but only in b&w, and not (as I learnt yesterday) from the very beginning.  So some of the most interesting aspects of the screenplay were new to me last night, such as the fact that Kirk went 180°, from shutting down Spock's reservations about killing the last of the species, to talking Spock down from firing upon the Horta as Kirk and the alien (truly, a fabulous alien) were in confrontation.  This show's quarrel:  The first 2-3 victims are overcome by something that looms as tall as they. But then when we see "the monster," it's the love-child of Pizza the Hutt and a roomba. Jests aside, great episode.

So:

"A Taste of Armageddon":  Of the population on the wargames planet, there is only one woman who has lines, she is mostly decorative, and she ceases to be a player entirely once Kirk places her under house arrest.

"This Side of Paradise":  Of the population on the agricultural planet, there is only one woman, The Girl Who Always Loved Mr Spock.  Her decorativeness at least serves the plot.

"The Devil in the Dark":  No female cast members at all.  All right, that is technically an exaggeration, since Uhura must have been at her post in the brief introductory scene on the bridge of the Enterprise.  But it underscores the point.  I'll call it a double-edged razor:  One could argue that, since the action takes place in a mine, mining is not "woman's work."  Or, once can argue that, as in the starfleet crews of the future, there is a place for women in the work of mines of the future.

30Rock - Susan & I are watching this series (7 seasons, 2006-2013) together - she has already seen but a first for me - just started Season 4
and I'm really enjoying; Tina Fey is just scrumptious to me & Alec Baldwin much more talented than I gave him credit - we'll watch to the end.  Dave :)

Went back to Batman yesterday, the Joker as the guest super villain in "The Joker Trumps an Ace"/"Batman Sets the Pace."  Very interesting resonance with the MI elements in Rogue Nation, which was also part of yesterday's viewing.

The next two super villains in the queue are King Tut (Victor Buono) and Bookworm (Roddy McDowell), which I may never have seen before . . . so that is a temptation for this afternoon.

Roddy McDowell seemed to believe that he WAS The Bookworm!!!

Which reminds me: which episode does one find Batman and Robin in a library, where they ask the librarian: "Have you seen any strangely dressed people in here today?"  $:)

I recall it being a Riddler episode!  ;)

Yes, season 3 on Blu-ray someday in the future. This show hasn't been "airing" in Finland at all as far as I know. Not "dumb enough" for masses I guess...
