I find it odd that modern life has taken away the physical work of normal daily life.

I try to make exercise a natural part of my day. Every day. Its easy - simply sell your car.

I don't have a car, so I ride a bicycle to work and back (28km round trip each day). Shopping is likewise done by bike, as are most family outings (even my 3 year old can ride his tricycle down to the Lake and back). My wife also rides every day. My kids walk or ride to school and back. When you have to do it, and there is no alternative, its easy. No excuses about being too busy - I have 3 small kids, and a full-time profesional job. My wife likewise. Simply wake up 15 minutes earlier.

Many of our social activities are also sporting related - bushwalking, camping, cycling with friends, jogging with a group etc. Often, ending up at a good bakery, of course. We go to the movies and restaurants too, but we will ride or walk. It may take an hour or more, but think of it as the whole point - the journey, rather than the destination.

wouldn't you be all sweaty by the time you get to work?
i remember watching a TV show where the guy decided to start riding his bike to work (but he worked an office job, the show was The Office). Kinda nasty to get to work like that, unless maybe for your job it's ok

;D That's true.
I can only catch the 11PM show here on Fox though.

Here is a picture of the "rowing machine" (actually paddling :) ) I bought and have been using since March.  I've been getting on the lake about 3 times a week for 2.5-3 hours of paddling each outing.  It is a lot of fun and also great exercise.  I've done some modifications to make it a better fishing platform like adding a fishfinder, an anchor system, and a night time navigation light, so this keeps it interesting too.  I can get some exercise while catching a healthy dinner :) .  So far I've lost 19 lbs by exercising more and mainly just cutting out sweets.

A different color, and not me in the pic ;) but it shows a sense of the size and what it looks like on the water:

Quick shower at work.

All new buildings for work (depending on the number of employees) in Australia must, by law, have facilities for cyclists, including parking and showering/change rooms.

And no, being sweaty is not acceptable in my line of work. ;D

Do you exercise? If so, what do you do?

I'm finally getting back in the swing of it now having fully recovered from my car crash. I used to be into weights but right now I am focusing on my cardio, so I am running 3 miles four times a week and feel great!

What do you lot do?

I used to take 2-4 walks a day, which was nice.  But now I don't have the time, but my apartment complex has an exercise room, which I plan on using, actually starting today.  I enjoyed vigorous twenty minute work out back last fall (until I broke the machine) it gave me alot of energy and made me feel great.  I look forward to that again, and now I won't be breaking machines because I've lost 50 lbs! :D
