We're here for you, Bill!

A man becomes preeminent, he's expected to have enthusiasms. Enthusiasms, enthusiasms... What are mine? What draws my admiration? What is that which gives me joy? Baseball! A man stands alone at the plate. This is the time for what? For individual achievement. There he stands alone. But in the field, what? Part of a team. Teamwork... Looks, throws, catches, hustles. Part of one big team. Bats himself the live-long day, Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, and so on. If his team don't field... what is he? You follow me? No one. Sunny day, the stands are full of fans. What does he have to say? I'm goin' out there for myself. But... I get nowhere unless the team wins.

How are you able to tell which Brahms' recording that is under Böhm

Bohm made two recordings of Brahms' 1st for DG. With Berlin Philharmonic in 1959 or 1960 (can't recall the exact year offhand) and later in mid 70s with Vienna Philharmonic as part of the complete cycle. Cover of that LP says Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra in lower right corner.

Bogey: IMO, the prices of the LPs.you listed are too high. The seller is profiting at least a 200%. Maybe he has paid 5 and sells at 150. DONT by LPs.from a specialist seller. Better go to Ebay.
I agree that the prices are too high (as is most audiophile gear) but these are BRAND NEW LP's, not new/old stock or used stuff from ebay. Most of the prices for these range from $30 to $50 for double LP's.

Some are very limited editions, and made with the very best vinyl and cutting techniques and remastered on vintage tube equipment.

The prices really aren't for the materials themselves, which are quite low of course, but of securing the original master tapes, licensing and all the unconventional analog processing equipment that by and large isn't used anymore.

And of course, there is the "collector's mentality thing" surrounding them, thus the higher prices. Plus, they actually really do sound great!

If you know of a seller on ebay that sells these types of LP's new/sealed for well under the prices I've mentioned, please give me the link.

You will have made a great friend!

Well, just ordered the Bach and Dvorak lps.  Many thanks for your input folks!

I haven't heard the Monteux Dvorak, but I trust my friend Milos on that one. I know it's too late, but when your Dad feels the spirit of Christmas strike again, do consider that Böhm Brahms 1  ;D. I don't know about the sound on that particular lp, but as an interpretation it's both unimpeachable and plain damn thrilling. Other than that, I'd suggest you go for something you don't have (as simple as that :D, 'cause from what I've seen, they only have true classics in their selection).

In addition, you might want to consider the Haydnhouse website, devoted entirely to LPs transferred to cd. A lot of what you'll find there is the very same stuff as that offered at your lp store, but it has valuable comments on sound and performance. Plus, you can often hear sound samples.

Enjoy your purchases !

Try www.lpnow.com

Most of there 180-200 gram stuff is still $33 and the selection is fairly poor.  I believe Ebay is still the best bet to snag one that is used for a lower price.

No worries, André, the Brahms' lp is stored in my wish-list, top of the queue. ;D
