Monsieur Croche

Almost all of my picks (only five? ???) Have been covered several times over.

But, I do love and would like to see a bit more love for his completely remarkable Le Bal Masqué

From his solo piano oeuvre, Honorable mentions, at least ~

This work greatly impressed me too and is one of the best things I have heard by Poulenc so far.
As concerns the thread - I must admit to not being familiar enough with Poulenc's work to formulate a meaningful list.
I'll try to post a list at some stage in the future when I get a bit more experience (assuming the thread is not buried by then).

aesthetic

- Concerto pour deux pianos
- Concert champêtre
- Piano concerto
- Sinfonietta (particularly for the andante cantabile)

The 5th spot would probably be reserved for one of the chamber sonatas, all of which require revisiting.

Turner

Mainly the concertante works, except the Organ Concerto -

- Concert Champetre
- Aubade
- Piano Concerto
- Concerto for 2 Pianos

As for a 5th work I´m somewhat hesitant, probably Les Biches and Sinfonietta are among the best bets, but there are of course fine vocal works, chamber music and piano pieces too.

Btw, I like the way he often insists on extra-musical associations, pastiches and literary texts, or picture-creating titles, for the listener - besides the mere notes. I don´t think this feature and the created atmospheres can be separated from his work, or popularity.
