I will be going to Denmark for the filming of a reality TV show. I will likely make an exploratory trip in mid September while the filming will be three weeks after that.

Do we have anyone from Denmark? It would be great if I could get some ideas (places and things to explore) before my trip. It will be a reality TV show of Chinese couples (from China) going to different countries to have their weddings in the local style. As one of the sponsors is a travel agency, we will be looking into interesting places to visit and things that are unique of the country and its people.

Thanks in advance!

I can recommend a great Danish restaurant!!! Here's what you do:

1. Head over to Copenhagen airport.
2. Get on a flight to LAX (will probably require change of planes somewhere).
3. When you get to LAX, rent a car and head north on Hwy 101.
4. Drive about 125 miles (Past Santa Barbara) until you get here: http://www.cityofsolvang.com .
5. Find Alisal Road (right off the main highway).
6. Turn right and park as soon as you can (free ample parking to your left).
7. Eat here http://www.yelp.com/biz/bit-o-denmark-incorporated-solvang .
8. Don't miss your flight back to Copenhagen (Hurry!!! The traffic thru Santa Barbara and L.A. in the late afternoon is a b*tch!)

That is indeed a good restaurant. I did not have time for it last year when I had to arrive in LA (from SF) by a certain time. Later this year or early next, I will make sure that I take Vanessa and Kimi there for a bite.

I will be on a Caribbean cruise in October. Not sure which part of Florida it might dock.

Cool. Probably will dock somewhere in South Florida, but if you do end up within a reasonable driving distance from me somehow, I wouldn't mind hanging out. And on a day off. I'll be pretty busy in October.  :-X

It's a reality TV show, so we will be working almost constantly! But I do plan to take the family to Orlando within the next 12-18 months. We'll see...

Well, I am Danish by birth, maybe the only active Danish GMG´er, born in Copenhagen, where I studied and worked until I turned 33. Since then I have lived far from Copenhagen and my visits to Copenhagen nowadays are few.

I am afraid, that I cannot advise you as to restaurants - it doesn't interest me that much.

If you want to experience the history of the Danes, it includes visiting old buildings, museums, going to concerts and theater and specific cultural institutions. I can give you a list of my preferred locations, if you want.

Cruising out of Florida or just a port stop?
I live about 30 minutes from Port Everglades and an hour from Port of Miami.  Distances are actually shorter, but traffic has an impact.

If you are overnight in Miami, check into the New World Symphony schedule, you may be able to fit that in.  Just remember weekend traffic in Miami Beach can be horrendous, and they are based in the heart of South Beach.

Since it is a reality TV show, and we are doing a Danish wedding in the end, I would look for things that are very specifically Danish or representative of the country and region.
Of things that people know: OK, start with the Mermaid... but I remember that there is a district that is, how do we describe it, a village of Utopians or was it Anarchists? Denmark is one of the few (maybe only) country were handball is a popular sport. I also look for traditional national dress, dance, music, decorations, etc. that can be used for the special wedding, and special food for the banquet, etc.

Also, special or interesting locations for filming -- again, not just the popular tourist spots and the mermaid!

(Personally, I'd like to dress up the groom as Langguard in that huge hat!!!)

Well, fill me in on some of that. Much appreciated!

Their first concert of the season is in November.
