I think perhaps we might be being too flippant with Newman's scholarly credentials. I mean over 15 years of researching, participation in at least one academic published book. These are all things and things should be noticed.

Google "Robert Newman Mozart Myth" and you'll see a bunch of discussions started by this tireless and tiresome conspiracy theorist in his travels about the message boards of our not-so-new millennium. Robert Newman is a guy in England who makes dramatic allegations about Mozart. Namely, the man was a Freemason stooge who never composed a note . . .

I read through about 12 pages of the old Rob Newman thread today, thanks to this post. But it did lead me to listen to a symphony by Etienne-Nicholas Mehul, recommended by somebody who wasn't Rob Newman, so that was a good thing.
