Very very sad.  A HUGE loss.  I suggest the six volume collection of his first quartet to be a great place to start listening to his music.

Very, very sad indeed. Not that it came totally unexpected, but this one's really hard to take.

I own, among others,  the first four releases:  The Shape of Jazz to Come, Change of the Century, This is Our Music, Free Jazz. They are excellent and agree they are a great starting point for anyone interested in exploring Ornette's music.
"Music can inspire love, religious ecstasy, cathartic release, social bonding, and a glimpse of another dimension. A sense that there is another time, another space and another, better universe."

Another great one passes.  Walk in beauty, Ornette.
