Looks good! I have a lot of Hope titles, missed out on that one and now it's too expensive.

Ditto

Also played some Horace Silver and Lester Young. And Sonny Rollins.
It's all good...

Shoot, I didn't need to know about another "Mulligan Meets..." album with a great artist! I don't actually much love his encounter with Monk but Mulligan Meets Johnny Hodges...that is a classic.

One of my favourite jazz purchases this year. Free, modal jazz from the early 70s.

Excellent, thanks for mentioning this (emphasis added, big area of interest for me). Will have to purchase...well, as soon as I get that new Sam Rivers title, Braids on NoBusiness.

Stan Kenton - Standards In Silhouette (1959)

Melissa Dunphy: A Slice of Pie (Mendelssohn Chorus of Philadelphia / Dominick DiOrio, conductor) - Just released today, a charming, jazz-inflected short piece for chorus, trumpet, bass, and drums, with text by Feminista Jones. To my ears, perfect for the holidays.

And here's the poem:

A Slice of Pie
by Feminista Jones

My apple pie is sweeter
I use the same cinnamon and nutmeg
The same apples, every time

When eyes close
And you relish it with delight
Her pie is peach

And you convince her that you love it
Love her
Just the same

But her peaches are in season
Now, at last
When autumn comes

You come calling
For my sweeter apple pie
And I'm the fool who believes your lies

Even not on their best recording Miles Davis band sounds ten times better than many others around the same time.

Now enjoying another great album from that period.
