« Kalaparusha »
Kalaparusha Maurice McIntyre, reeds
Karl Berger, vibes & piano
Ingrid, vocal
Tom Schmidt, bass
Jack DeJohnette (+Jumma Santos), drums

Trio Records (1977)

Kalaparusha Maurice McIntyre was a musician closely linked to the AACM movement in Chicago and then to the Loft Jazz scene in New York...
This is an excellent album  :)

Looks like an excellent album.

Surprisingly, I know Ingrid (Sertso). She, her husband Karl Berger, and Jack DeJohnette all live in the vicinity of Woodstock, NY, which is just under an hour's drive from me.

I've just booked up a concert 'Julian Bliss Septet' at Bayham Abbey (which is local for us) for 31st July.

That looks great! The setting looks like it would add a lot, too.

Just after I arrived at a secondhand record store yesterday they put on Miles' Nefertiti album and I chose to stay long enough to hear it right through.

On the way out I said how much I'd enjoyed hearing it again and they told me that a couple of customers had complained. :(

All first listens, as nearly everything is for me these days since I have so much catching up to do. ::)

The Tyner is nice, and will certainly get more plays. I was less enamored of the Attias, which despite a great lineup just didn't impress me that much (certainly not as much as his earlier album Credo, which I love).

Another stellar lineup on the Formanek (Tim Berne, Craig Taborn, Gerald Cleaver), and it has a compelling power that kind of grew on me as I listened. Need to listen again (as well as to the quartet's earlier The Rub and Spare Change).

Any so-called ‘music lover’ that doesn’t love Miles Davis' ‘Second Great Quintet’ period needs to be thrown out of the store. If someone complained to me, after I played Nefertiti, I’d put on either Miles Smiles or Sorcerer just to piss them off even further. :D

I don't remember Miles in the Sky being that agitated. That's the first time I'm listening to it on a CD. I kind of thought it would be closer to In a Silent Way, but no. Ammons on the other hand was pure pleasure.
