First spin of this SACD

One of my fave Monk recordings, with a really good band.

Accompanying Monk there's:

    Thad Jones – cornet
    Charlie Rouse – tenor saxophone
    Sam Jones – bass
    Art Taylor – drums

And, the songs are among his best.

Yeah, I really enjoyed it, though not as much as Monk's Dream.

5 by Monk by 5 is one of my favorites of his, too. (I think Monk's Music is my favorite of all the Riversides.)

TD:

The other two members of the quartet are Matt Wand and Pat Thomas, whose contributions here are a bit uneven to me. Not the best Oxley I've heard, but not bad.

The man that hath no music in himself,
Nor is not moved with concord of sweet sounds,
Is fit for treasons, stratagems, and spoils.
The motions of his spirit are dull as night,
And his affections dark as Erebus.
Let no such man be trusted.

My first-ever listen to Harrell, I believe.
