Roy Eldridge - Collates (1952)

The original 10" lp which someone has uploaded to YT. Looks like these tracks later appeared on the 12" lp Rocking Chair.

Not to mention, cool cover art of the day.

Now listening to the Bruce Barth Quartet, live from Smalls in NYC:

Bruce Barth (piano) , Steve Nelson (vibes), Paul Sikivie (bass), Jason Tiemann (drums)

And now, the Philadelphia Jazz Orchestra, live from Chris' Jazz Cafe. All I can add is, during a pandemic, thank goodness for livestreams.

I hardly ever play Quiet Nights, but whenever I do I find, as now, that its much more interesting than its poor reputation.

And actually listened to Quiet Nights right through a second time

Miles Davis - A Tribute to Jack Johnson

I have seen versions of this tribute album coming up at least twice [above] in recent times and it piqued my curiosity. I did notice that one was a box set and the other was a single album [from the box set?]. I had not heard either before so I gave the single album a listen. I enjoyed both tracks on it. I liked the funky drive quite a lot in the first song "Right Off". I also liked the bass playing on this track.

John Coltrane: The Prestige Recordings CD 16

(Original album, and recording date, for each track listed in parentheses)

CD 16:

Stardust (Stardust – 7/11/58)
My Ideal (Bahia - 7/11/58)
I'll Get By (Standard Coltrane – 7/11/58)
Do I Love You Because You're Beautiful? (The Believer – 12/26/58)
Then I'll Be Tired Of You (Stardust - 12/26/58)
Something I Dreamed Last Night (Bahia - 12/26/58)
Bahia (Bahia - 12/26/58)
Goldsboro Express (Bahia - 12/26/58)
Time After Time (Stardust - 12/26/58)

Most of these tracks are obviously taken from two albums, Stardust and Bahia. These are two albums that I feel that I need to explore further as I liked the prevailing atmosphere in both of them.

John Coltrane: The Prestige Recordings

This collection was, for me, revelatory in helping to educate me in the world of the music and music making of both John Coltrane and the associated musicians and albums on which he appeared. He was, undoubtedly, a supreme talent. I am very grateful to have discovered and heard this collection both from the point of view of Coultrane himself but also for the exposure, for me, to the many other wonderful musicians that Coultrane worked with. It has been nothing but a constant pleasure for me to have listened to this collection.
