nor in competing for the favor of wayward friends.

My once a decade listen to this.

I bought it when it came out and not sure I've listened to it since.

His 80s output are enjoying a minor reappraisal. I should probably blow the dust off some of those titles.

I've probably said it before on this thread, but Tutu remains my favorite of the 80s. The Marcus Miller production may be very firmly of its time, but Miles is really playing and playing on that one, rather than just contributing a few splashes of colour.

Debatable which thread I should put this in.

R.I.P. Bill Lee.
This is a really outstanding album (IMO). I prefer the version of Coltrane on this recording to the more famous one on Clifford Jordan's Glass Bead Games (also on Strata-East).

Dry Brett Kavanaugh

Louis Hayes - Woody Shaw Quintet, Lausanne 1977.

Freddie Hubbard: Skylark.

Freddie Hubbard - For Spee's Sake.

Been a while, but this album is an old friend. Includes a re-recording of Afro-Cuban Jazz Suite. You miss Bird of course, but you get nice modern sound.

And by extension:

This is my favourite piece by him, a short little piece with no improvisation, just three delicately orchestrated choruses (in C minor, then transformed to C major, and finally in Eb).
