Powerful, unpretentious music! I love it. Sounds 70s very much.

Couldn't stand the original at the time either, and for the same reason, but now I can admire the singing.

The RRK version is nice, though quite a literal remake.

I really enjoy Theme for the Eulipions, the first track from that album (with Hilton Ruiz on piano and Howard Johnson on tuba!), though the vocals are likely not to everyone's taste:


The late Jessica Williams recorded a piano trio version (not too many people cover Rahsaan):
