Joachim Kühn

The new album by Joachim Kühn hits the sweet spot; I've been listening to it several times over the past few days.

I listened to some of that Kühn on bandcamp last month but passed. Have been listening to some of his old free jazz on BYG. This one has a really funny Morricone quote on one tune (El Dorado), though not unexpected given the title.

It's a good, solid album, but I always want to like it more than I actually do.

Unlike the previous one, this is a first listen. And a very favourable one.

Might even have the potential to become my favourite Nelson LP.

The Cave is the debut album of the trio formed by Danish drummer and composer Michala Østergaard-Nielsen with pianist Marilyn Crispell and bassist Thommy Andersson — a striking blend of composed melodies and free improvisation that highlights their intuitive interplay and their artful balance of structure and spontaneity, unfolding into an immersive and evocative exploration of the classic piano trio format. Highly recommended.
