Quote from: Drosera on March 03, 2024, 11:06:07 AMIf that's about the Isaac Stern Tzigane, that's a known defect. I believe there's information on how to get a replacement disk in the Youtube review of this box set by Hurwitz.
Personally, I'll try to live with 5 seconds of missing music in a 120 disc box set.

Fascinating to go through this set and the complete Szell simultaneously, quite the contrast. (While reading the autobiography of Anshel Brusilow, who has been (assistant) concertmaster in both orchestras.  :) )

And Brusilow has his own (obviously much smaller--6 CDs) -as-a-conductor set.

If anyone is thinking of getting the Monteux RCA set--Groovesland's extra low price is going to end in 4 days (Saturday, I suppose).

Well Groovesland's special sale price ended. And was replaced with a lower sale price.😀chrome_screenshot_May 27, 2024 7_32_27 PM EDT.jpg

I found that the code "monday50" still works at eclassical.  It was supposed to expire a month ago.  I gave it a try to see if they would be beat on Presto's BIS sale using the code (and yes!)  Anyway I picked up the Vanska/Minnesota Sibelius set for $17.

Oh yeah and Presto has a bunch of BIS on sale (not super bargain territory).

I think eClassical are repeating the "monday50" offer a couple of times.  Certainly it makes a lot of excellent releases very good value.

It's all good...

ArkivMusic USA seems to be using its Weekend Specials to offload Sony big boxes that didn't sell out. Last weekend it was the Mitropoulos box (as JBS posted elsewhere). Now the Isaac Stern jumbo box is going for just over $1 per CD, and the Yo-Yo Ma/Emanuel Ax chamber music box is 21 CDs for $28. I bought the Ma/Ax for $40 last year and thought I was getting a steal.

That landed today, btw. Big heavy thing. I didn't remember that it has one of those coffee table books for the track listings.

I am trying to resist that Stern box.

I don't enjoy Stern, so I don't have that problem, but if they decide the two Ormandy boxes need to go on clearance for $1/disc...

My thoughts align with yours...except there's lots of Stern I like (and have...so I don't really need this one).

Maybe keep an eye on Amazon Spain. I got the Ormandy Mono for $108 a couple of months ago...

If only the Sony boxes I pine for hadn't sold out... The Firkunsy, The Mono Beethoven Budapest, The Complete Boulez...

I doubt it is going as low as the $95 price I saw before I believed that grooves.land is legit.

I hope this is the corrected release of this set. The first iteration was plagued by a disc (or two) with digital glitches or this is what I remember reading about this set.

This weekend's ArkivMusic super-cheap Sony box deal is the Stoltzman clarinet box for $40. $1 per CD.

(And JBS - no, I didn't go for Mitropoulos in the end.)

Wow, first post here in almost 4 months.

But, but, but they're all in German. Who can understand them?
